The main purpose of the celebration of this day is to promote and protect the rights of the indigenous peoples of the world. It is possible that there are local people in the tribal form in Pakistan like the rest of the world and there are people of different races and colors living in our four provinces and the concept of local people in the population of 24 crores of Pakistan is not intended to show separation. Rather, they have to be given recognition, just as recognition has been given in our provinces, and until now, Saraiki province is being sought in South Punjab, the main reason for which is to give their identity to the local people. In the local communities, the tribes are inhabited by their names and by commemorating them on an annual basis and celebrating them as cultural festivals, these communities are convinced that they live in these tribes and their own rituals as such. And according to customs, they are included in one unit of the country
Whereas, the United Nations has reserved this day for the indigenous people so that the identity of the indigenous peoples remains and instead of being seen as small groups, they are called indigenous peoples and come together as tribes and then exist in the form of provinces and countries. Just as there are small units in countries all over the world, there are also provinces, and after having separate states, there is a government in one unit, in the same way, this system is still there to maintain this concept, which is remembered. Because of their stereotypes and their love for remote areas, these tribes and their members are not only unfamiliar with modern facilities, but according to the United Nations, their control over their lands, territories and resources is under the influence of the ultimate authority of central governments. are also losing Similarly, these people who make up 2.6 percent of the world’s population are also suffering from poverty due to their dwindling resources. On the other hand, Josep Borrell, the head of European foreign affairs on behalf of the European Union, has said in a statement issued on the occasion of this day that the global epidemic of Covid-19 has affected the health care, education, It has put pressure on their rights, including their equal access to land and natural resources. According to the declaration, their involvement is facing a dangerous situation even while making decisions for industrial activity in the name of economic development. Similarly, there has been an increase in land grabbing, illegal deforestation and crimes and violence against human rights defenders working for these indigenous people. According to the European Union, one-third of the 330 human rights defenders killed worldwide in 2020 were indigenous human rights defenders. Most of them were women. In order to maintain the identity of the local people and provide them with social facilities according to their culture, the governments should play their role according to the principles mentioned by the United Nations and also in Pakistan, the local people should be given these This international day should also be celebrated at the official level in a full way to recognize and respect.
